Ready for The Good Life?

"Easy-going, green, and filled with art."
-- The San Francisco Chronicle (June, 2001)

   "The city's neighborhoods have
         distinct, lively personalities."
                   -- St. Louis Post-Dispatch (October, 2002)

Southwest Washington -- with no state tax on earned or retirement income or inheritance, relatively low housing prices, varied and comfortable lifestyle choices, cultural and educational opportunities, proximity to dynamic Portland, Oregon, extraordinary natural beauty all around, short driving distance to a multitude of recreational venues, and nice, mild climate (yes!) -- has increasingly become a magnet for savvy baby-boomers, seniors, and others looking for a place to live the good life of their dreams. If you are looking for a place to live better and live more, this is it!  Vancouver, Washington and its surrounding area is perfect for an active, or relaxed, fulfilling lifestyle.  No wonder so many boomers and retirees are looking for homes for sale in Vancouver or exploring other Clark County real estate options!

These population centers also offer a myriad of options to enjoy a fun-filled lifestyle, including museums and galleries, symphony and chamber orchestra concerts, opera and ballet, jazz and blues club venues plus fabulous festivals, rock and country music performances, stimulating lecture series, gourmet dining, wine tasting and brewer's events, ethnic food festivals, art fairs, big Juy 4th celebrations, and more!  There are also many opportunities for civic involvement or to volunteer and really make a difference.  And there are plenty of family-friendly places -- super "stuff" for kids, too!  -- all so nice for when the kids and grandkids visit.  Not to mention the endless choices for fun day trips or weekend getaways, from the mountains to the ocean beaches -- both just an hour or two away -- to quick trips to Portland and other fun nearby towns, the region's wine country, or to great, easy-access places for golfing, bicycling, camping, fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, windsurfing, sking and snowboarding, or whatever your sport of choice.  Great outlet shopping, too!  Like antiques?  Then, visit Portland's Sellwood District, drive to Aurora, OR, or take a train to Centralia, WA -- both towns less than a few hours away.  Or how about enjoying a few days in nearby Seattle, the San Juan Islands or Victoria, BC, even taking a quick trip to San Francisco or Las Vegas!

Quality healthcare is provided through several hospital systems -- including SW Washington Medical Center and the brand new Legacy Hospital in Vancouver's Salmon Creek neighborhood -- and a variety of HMOs, including Kaiser  Permanente, and other insurance options.  A wide variety of alternative health care services are also available, including chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, and more.

Public transportation in urban areas is very good, and crime is low.  The larger urban areas provide excellent opportunities to further your education, too, whether in a university degree program, community college, or by taking special interest classes of all kinds.  If you want good, speedy internet access, this region has it.  Portland has been voted the "most wired" city in America, and its neighboring cities are following in its footsteps. A wide variety of services and special pograms for seniors are also found throughout the region, including in lovely 55+ communities in Vancouver Washington and elsewhere in the area.

All types of housing options are available, including many "ranch" homes and one-level condominiums, two-story homes with the master bedroom suite on main floor or with "in-law" quarters, townhouses and patio homes, homes adjacent to golf courses or other recreational venues, and homes with low-maintenance landscaping or gated access, as well as nice, affordable manufactured home parks.  Each of these types of homes can be found in some of the region's fine 55+ communities.  Those who long for the country life will also have many options to choose from in a variety of truly idyllic settings. And, as you probably know, the Pacific Northwest is a wonderful place to establish a vacation or second home for special get-aways and future plans, and maybe some rental property investment, too.
